Random Thoughts on Blogging

I started blogging before most people knew what it is, and I dropped it before most people do. Ahead of the curve, I am. Well, OK, that’s a result of going to tech web sites, so one knows the latest trends. And I’m not saying the trend is people will drop blogging, no. Just my bad writing.

I have started quite a few blogs, most of them I just stopped writing very soon. I have clearly no readers. And nothing interesting to write about. But I do read blogs, good ones with some insights and funny ones.

Blogging is such an easy way to publish people’s writing online. Now it’s not just writing, people post photos and videos too. I don’t think blogging will go away at all, because it’s easy and everyone’s doing it. But since everyone’s doing it, the quality of blogs generally is low.

I have not found a need to blog now. Writing for no one. That’s so pointless. I’ve got a journal now, though, if I do want to write, and I can write anything because only I can read it.

A few things

First, I don’t have to go to school now. I don’t know if I can go back in September, but I’ll try hard for that. Well, I enjoy the freedom of studying at home, but I will miss school.

Second, I received a letter from the library, saying I got an interview for the job. I don’t know if I got lucky, or they just interview anyone who signs up, but if you got one too, please tell me, because I don’t want to go to Central alone. Anyway, it will be my first ever job interview.

Third, I went to an “intensive course” for Physics yesterday. They just play a video of the “teacher” in the class. I don’t really mind, I don’t need to see the guy too clearly. The style of this kind of class is quite different. The guy just wants to be funny. Well, he says there’s gonna be a question about interference and diffraction, so let’s see. I will have two more lessons only. Really expensive, about $100 per lesson.

Westlife!

Last night, TVB Pearl showed the Westlife tour in 2006, Face to Face Tour. That’s really surprising and exciting. It’s so great to see their handsome faces on a bigger screen. It was wonderful, of course. I watched it on the biggest TV we have at home. Totally wonderful! Though, as it is expected with TVB, a lot was cut from the show. A lot of less popular songs were cut, and the medley only had Don’t Cha left (that song was really hot when they sang it!), and all of their talks were cut as well. So today I listened to the tour on my iPod. Nothing cut except the video. :P

What’s more surprising is that I saw Westlife again today. I saw them in New Town Plaza in Sha Tin (after visiting relatives). There’s a huge screen in the plaza. It was showing their MV of Amazing. I could read the lips of Shane – he was singing the second verse when I looked up and saw his handsome face. I went a bit crazy after I saw them. There’s an aunt there who doesn’t know I love Westlife and didn’t know why I was looking at the screen and with mouth opened and laughing and singing. I told my sister and mother to see them too. lol That’s really amazing. I think this is the Year of Westlife!

Math puzzle

I wonder did anyone actually thought about the puzzle that Mr Lo talked about in the assembly, but I did, and I am glad to say that I solved it rather quickly. I knew the answer before I finished climbing the stairs to the fifth floor.

The puzzle is this: the ten numbers, 0-9, are put into three groups. Group A has 1, 4, 7; B has 2 and 5; C has 3, 6, 8, 0. The question is where 9 is put. Mr Lo said it’s not about calculations.

My solution is like this: In group A, the numbers are formed by straight lines. The numbers in group B are formed partly by straight lines and partly by a curve. Those in group C are entirely in curves. Therefore, 9 can actually be in group B or C, depending on how you write it.

I didn’t find Mr Lo for a confirmation or the prize. I just forgot it and I don’t think I would really find him if I remembered to.

Get organized, Get things done

We all have a lot of papers lying around. It’s really annoying to have them piled up around your desk, isn’t it? And the unorganized pile makes your mind unorganized, too. One thing I have discovered is that sorting out all the mess can help you not only to get a tidy desk for work, but also to clear up your mind. And suddenly, magically, you will be happier as well. This happens to me anyway.

If you have seen me reading the book “Getting Things Done”, you can probably guess that this tip more or less come from it. In fact I don’t remember if it actually says something like this in the book. The author, David Allen, recommends us to take some time every week to review all our things, and the nasty pile is included for me. (But, if you follow the book closely, you shouldn’t have a nasty pile in the first place, as everything will be filed in a proper place once it gets in.)

I haven’t recommended this book on here before, what I want to say is that this book is really worth reading. It’s a really great book.

PS: I bought the Doraemon schedule book that Kitty has had for a while. I ran across it a few days ago and it was too hard to resist. :)

Happy New Year!

Yeah!! It’s a new year. I’m sure it’ll be a troubled year, but let it be an exciting year!

As for my Song of the Year, it’s Westlife! Woo-hoo! I didn’t plan it, otherwise it doesn’t mean anything. I put all my music in Party Shuffle, and iTunes picked Westlife’s first No. 1 single, Swear It Again, for me.

There’s a New Year message from the guys on the official website. They’re so cute, just watch Shnicky!

Anyway, happy new year everyone!

Merry Christmas!

Yeah! Merry Christmas! :D Hope you all have a good holiday. Though I know that we will be very busy this year, but enjoy your time – work might just be fun if you like it, especially for subjects you like.

…… Note: I know I have nearly forgotten this blog. Blogging just doesn’t seem that cool to me now. I think I’ll move to something else, as Blogsome doesn’t give me much freedom. No plan yet.

A lab accident

A few days ago we had some experiments in the Chemistry lesson. It’s about sulphuric acid, sulphur dioxide, something like that.

As the title says, I had an accident that day. We took some test tubes from the tray, then I saw that they were dirty. Must have been that the last class did not clean up. So, naturally, I had to clean it with my greatest effort. As I was cleaning one of the test tubes, I felt some pain on my left thumb. It took me a while to notice that it is unusual, as I had had a very little wound there. So, after I knew that there was something wrong, I had to figure out what was wrong. I didn’t know that the test tubes had been used for some experiments about concentrated sulphuric acid. But soon I figured it out. Knowing that acids are corrosive, I immediately washed my poor finger. But what I didn’t know was this: (cited from Wikipedia)

Laboratory hazards
The corrosive properties of sulfuric acid are accentuated by its highly exothermic reaction with water. Hence burns from sulfuric acid are potentially more serious than those of comparable strong acids (e.g. hydrochloric acid), as there is additional tissue damage due to dehydration and particularly due to the heat liberated by the reaction with water, i.e. secondary thermal damage. … In the case of sulfuric acid it is important that the acid should be removed before washing, as a further heat burn could result from the exothermic dilution of the acid. Washing should be continued for a sufficient length of time—at least ten to fifteen minutes—in order to cool the tissue surrounding the acid burn and to prevent secondary damage.

OMG. I totally didn’t know the part about water. I didn’t pay attention in lessons and I don’t do revisions. I have paid for this lesson. And I didn’t wash my finger for 15 minutes, only a few. I wonder what damage is done to my finger. Probably the cells are dead. Who knows if they will grow again?

My poor chemical knowledge, it is going to kill me someday. My friends, learn from my lesson. At least now I will never forget that H2SO4 plus H2O is highly exothermic.

Welcome back!

I know I’ve stopped posting for quite some time, because I was very lazy in the summer. On to what I did in summer …

I did nothing I guess. Except those lessons and playing on Neopets. I hardly did any homework during the holidays. I did most after 1st Sept, because most homework was to be handed in on 5th. Knowing that the deadline is 5th only made me procrastinate for a few more days. So the night before the deadline, I slept at 4AM. It’s my newest record. And I haven’t finished all homework. I just got too desperate, I knew that I couldn’t finish all even if I don’t sleep. So I just left the Chem homework unfinished. I don’t know if Mr Ho Ho had checked my books and found that I had totally two chapters that was not done. If he really did he was quite kind to me.

I don’t know what to write about now, so I’ll stop. I’ll find things to write I guess. Later.

A Snoopy Library, at my home!

Last week there was a phone call to my mum. It was from someone at a book seller. That was because my sister had bought a mini telescope and books set from them. (The telescope is quite fine. But my sister doesn’t know how to use it. I know how to, thanks to the Bio lessons.) The company phoned to sell some more books, of course.

I kept telling my mum not to buy the books, saving money you know. Even if it’s Peanuts comics. Even if it’s a big set of them. 30 of them to be exact. I’m not crazy for Snoopy, you know. But my mum bought them anyway. So today the books arrived. They’re all here. I’ll take some pictures later.
